Late For Work Blues

The sun will rise again when I lie awake in bed,
“The past is the past” was the last thing she said.
Do you see what I see my Love?
The world grows too heavy whilst I squeeze your hand,
Locked together against this global war for land.
Do you see what I see my Love?
Will you come on over so I can glue you to me?
To suspend this ungodly evolutionary trajectory.
Do you see what I see my Love?
Does it ever make you feel afraid?
All the buildings are tumbling just like they always planned,
The ones who stopped to think are now heaped bodies on the land,
I tried to sleep last night and my moral compass jammed,
I woke this morning with a Caramel Macchiato in my hand.
I loved you once,
I could love you again,
My hope is crashing like the FTSE 100 Index.
Do you see what I see my Love?
Species extinction sweetheart and Love Island on the TV,
Neither of these things sound good for me.
Do you see what I see my Love?
The road that God built between you and me,
Was more than mere mortal geometry.
Do you want to leave this place my Love?
Shall we at least try to find a way out of here?
You know today I read another horror story on my way to work,
You know today I tried to meditate my shock into a quirk,
You know today I read that Ellen DeGeneres convinced another guest to twerk.
I’ve got the Late For Work Blues.
I’ve got the Late For Work Blues.
I’ve got the Late For Work Blues.
You know I think this time I’ve got them right down to my brand new shoes.
